Thumbs up Hello all!

Hello, I am new to this and have been trying to find a place to go and post some questions or find others who have done what I won't to do. Last try. I have a 2001 ram 1500 quad cab 4x4 with 49,000 miles. I've already put Gibson stanless steal headers and full exhaust with a dual ram cold air intake.Next I would like to change my drum brakes to disc. Has anyone out there done this? After that I'm going to install a Gear Venders, upgrade to possible 3.92 gears. I need this truck to pull 10,000lbs. I know with the right mods it well work. Don't won't a diesel. Any helpful suggestions out there? Thanks

I have yet to even find a kit to swap the brakes from drum to disc. This could be interesting to see how it unveils. What engine do you have?

Welcome to the Z for Rams . Enjoy the site . Any questions , ask away . I have an '01 , still have the drum brakes . Here is a website that sells rear disc brake conversion kits .http://www.ssbrakes.com/ I just checked and they have one available for our trucks . I'm not real sure that your truck will be able to constantly tow that much without having catastrophic failure . You would probably be better off trying a 3/4 or 1 ton truck . Or convert some of your components over to 3/4 or 1 ton stuff . Differentials , transfer case , cooling sytem (radiator) , etc... Let us know how you make out or what decisions you make . I'd upgrade the brakes, as mentioned earlier, swap in some taller gears, maybe add a leaf to the rear and you'll definitely need (if it's a tow behind) an anti-sway / load leveling hitch.

I'd be worried about pulling that much weight constantly on the 1/2 ton suspension and drivetrain. I'd def upgrade the rear end cuz the 1/2 ton doesn't have the oil capasity to keep the dif cool. Maybe change to a Moser 80 or similar with a larger capasity diff cover like a Mag-hytech. And add a temp guage for the rear diff so you have real time readings.
