Default Offroad Clutch

Hey guys and gals. So as some of you know I did a motor swap in this truck back earlier this year, in doing that I also put a clutch and flywheel in it. Well, the clutch acutally feels like its warped and the throwout bearing is junk already too. I was wondering what yall are running for clutches in your truck. The reason I came here instead of the normal forum is this truck lives off road, just about every weekend we're doing trail rides or playing in the mud. The last clutch I put in it was just one of the best quality ones you can get off the shelf at advance auto parts, but it was only a single disc. Im looking to put a dual disc in it seein how this one has slipped a few times on me out in the woods. Any suggestions?

It's a 360.. You really don't need a special clutch. Honestly an automatic is better for many off road situations, as they have a little bit of "give" due to the torque converter.

And don't forget the torque multiplication factor of the torque converter. A good aftermarket TC can double the torque available.

Your right, but I dont own an automatic, and Im not converting it to one. And with as many of this generation dodge automatics I have seen being loaded up onto a tilt bed Im not sure I could ever bring myself to own one. Especially since just two weeks ago I towed a stock truck, same year and motor, that was an automatic out of the woods with a junk trans, that just reinforces it. And I realize that it is a 360, I built it. I have already put one clutch in it, and it needs another one, and its only been six months. When im wheeling, or woking it or anything, I do it in low range in first or second gear so its not like i was slipping the clutch or anything. I was just looking to see what everyone else is running for clutches or their suggestions. I can't find a vendor for South Bend anywhere around here.

Almost any diesel performance shop should carry them...there are 13 in PA listed on the south bend website

http://www.southbendclutch.com/distributors.html#pa

And you can build an auto to hold the power you make. Many of the parts used in the diesel auto trans will also work in a gas auto.

I had a BB 727 built using a lot of diesel trans parts that would hold a twin turbo'd 12v ctd. Just have to find someone to build it, or do it yourself.

It can be done, if you want to (and it didn't cost anymore than a regular performance rebuild really). The biggest cost on my rebuild was the CRT full manual reverse valve body & HP pump

You "built it". So is it still a 360?

It sounds like you got a bad clutch. That isn't a high power motor, there's no reason it should be eating clutches like that. Unless it's the way you're driving it.
