Default Help or I start cutting! trying to install bull bar

I am trying to install a bull bar on the front of my 05 Ram 1500QC 4x4.

I need to remove the horizontal black plastic cover that runs along most of the "bumper" to get to the mounting points behind bumper. The plastic piece is above the oem "air dam" and held in by 4 plastic screw things. They don't unscrew and are held in place by some weird plastic thing I can't see clearly since it is on the inside.

Do these pop out? I tried prying with a screw driver and just left little marks on bumper.

Do they unscrew? tried that. Plastic phillips heads strip easily and just turn anyways.

What should I try next? cutting? or is there a secret tool or technique to getting these 4 things off?

Thanks,
Michael

Crawl underneath and push it out from the backside. You can pry back there without marring up any visible plastic. Definitely going to take some "finesse" to get it out, but it'll come out.

I removed my air dam and it didn't go exactly how I planned lol. I'm pretty sure there were 5 bolt holding the dam on and I was successful in removing maybe 2. After much frustration I just pulled til the bolts went through the plastic. Then i just cut the bolts that were still in my bumper off with a cutting wheel. Hope this helps! lol

There is a tool that can take those out! My buddy used it on my truck when I was at his shop. It just pops the screw right out nice and easy. Not sure what it's called at the moment though. I'll see if I can find out.

I had the same problem when I installed my bull bar. I ended up taking a box cutter and cutting the back of the bolts off and just popping the piece out. I figured if I ever want to take the bull bar off I can just buy those screws again. They aren't that expensive.

Have a look here and see which one closest matches the trim fasteners you're talking about.

Some are designed to have a centre section pull out through the top, allowing wings pr protrusions on the shaft to retract, removing the fastener. Like this...

Others, are simply removed by simply pulling them out.

A small, wide pry bar and flat head screwdriver, gently pulling and working the fastener should work. There're also auto trim tools available...
