Default 1996 Engine Swap for a 2001 Engine

I currently have a 1996 Ram with the V6-239 3.9L that is our workhorse but it is on the downhill end of the engine life. I found a 2001 Ram in the wrecking yard with an engine and transmission in great shape with 70,000+ miles on it. Will the 2001 engine and transmission fit in my 1996 and what modifications or issues might I run into? Thank you
