Default lifted 97 ram 1500 tranny and 4x4 issues

on just got this 97 1500 with a 5.9 had a 4in procomplift and 35in bfgs i have all this paper work from a tranny place down in the valley for 2100 to redo this tranny 1st to 2nd is smooth then 2nd to 3rd takes a while u letoff and it shifts but hard...and the rest is pretty smooth and sometimes ill be crusieing about 35 40mph and al of a sudden its like passing gear jumps on for a few seconds and stops ? other problem is the 4x4 light is on and my trucks in 2h when i pop it into 4h or n or 4l the light goes off but does not engage? looked under the truck and the driver side u joint to the axle was snaped off the hub and some idiot just took the axle out and put the wheel back on would that make my 4x4 not engage?

If someone removed an axle half shaft then yes you wouldn't have a full 4x4 mode, it's like a vehicle without tires. As for the shifting problems, it's probably going to need a rebuild BUT I do recommend you buy 22301B-01K. This may actually fix the issue with the shifts if it doesn't then it's still something I would recommend you install if you want to prolong the life of the transmission.

My personal thoughts on this one is that your vacuum lines are reversed, probably at the unions on the front of the tranny crossmember on the drivers side, as far as the 4wd light illuminating in 2wd and being not illuminated in 4wd. the axle, joint and stub assy you can get from rockauto or someplace like that for about 100$, if you're replacing the pass side, make certain that you have the half ball thing inserted in the internal end of the axle, otherwise, it won't work right... it centers the axle end, as far as I know.
