Default 2wd drive and 4wd body swap

Hello, I just picked up a great running and driving 83 reg cab long box 1/2 ton with a terrible body and home made flat deck but I also know where I can buy a really nice 2wd cheap. Besides cutting out the hump for the t-case and swapping them, is there anything else I need to know? Have many guys done this? Can I remove the cab with the whole front clip (fenders, inners etc) still attatched? Thanks!

Yes you can but it's probably more work than just walking off the nose. Remove the fender bolts along the doors and the two bolts up by the radiator support and walk it off.

The amount of time it takes to walk the nose off is far less than the hassle of trying to fit everything over the engine etc...

Done it a couple times. Makes taking the intermediate shaft for the steering loose at the box easier as well as a few other things.

I forgot one more thing, the 2wd has the turbine wheels which I like, do they fit on the 4x4's?

Not necessarily. Up til the mid-80's the trucks had different bolt patterns. The standard duty 2WD 5 lug patterns were 5 x 4.5" and the 4WD were 5 X 5.5". By the mid 80's this was standardized to 5 x 5.5" on 2WD and 4WD, but your '83 should have the smaller pattern, so they won't fit. If you 2WD '83 is 5 X 4.5", you're outta luck.
