Default Running terribly throwing some codes.

Hey all,

I'm troubleshooting an issue on my brother in law's truck. He brought it over the other day, said it was running like crap and the check engine light was on. I scanned it and pulled the following codes:
P0442 - EVAP emission control system leak
P0305 - cylinder 5 misfire detected
P0141 - O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 2)

Truck is an 03 1500 4.7L with 103k miles. I'm thinking o2 sensors but wanted to double check with some experts before shotgunning parts. Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

I would start with o2 and plugs, clear the codes and see if anything else pops up later.

P0442 - EVAP emission control system leak
Could be gas cap(look for dry rotted/broken seal around cap. Could be leak anywhere in the EVAP system(look around the EVAP canister for dry rotted hoses, etc.

P0305 - cylinder 5 misfire detected
Could be a plug, coil, pcm...lots of things...

P0141 - O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 1 sensor 2)

Could be the sensor itself. Could be a damaged wire. Not sure if it could be the catalytic converter. Sensor 2 is after the catalytic converter. I don't remember if bank 1 is driver or passenger side.

I'd also start by replacing plugs/wires(not sure if that engine has plug wires). Clear codes and see what comes back. Also could disconnect the pcm for 15 min and hold brake pedal for 20 seconds to reset the pcm. Then see what codes come back. The misfire is causing the rough running. EVAP and the downstream O2 have basically no effect, just emissions. Still would be nice to fix them though(especially if it's easy).

Could be the plugs causing the miss fire as well as each cylinder has its own individual coil. If plugs do not solve the problem try switching the coils with another cylinder. If you get the same message on the cylinder you switched it to you will know it is the coil. No plug wires persay it is all part of a wiring harness and quite expensive to switch.

As far as the O2 sensor goes try one and if it goes away you have solved the problem.

As far as the Evap goes gas cap loose or gasket gone.
