Started HTML for our company's website about 2 to 3 days ago. Been working on the CSS (Cascading Style Sheets) code ever since then. Since then, I haven't skipped a beat.

I'm not terribly confident that I can do it without looking at the tutorials from time to time, but that's what those tutorials are there for -- to look at for help.

The hard and painful part is learning PHP. That's going to be painful because I then have to use strings, variables, "if...else..." etc. But then again, I can look at the tutorials at any time I am working and run into a snag.

I provided images via attachment so you can see my progress. Remember I did all the CSS coding and HTML coding myself. It's way far from finished (just the beginning...) so there is hardly any content.

Awesome job man! I am in my 4th year of college for computer programming and I know it can be a real b!tch at times. Good luck and I have to say i'm very impressed by your drive to get things done.

Are you using dreamweaver? That is what I have used in my web classes

No.

I'm actually using Crimson Editor, which is a free text-editor. I just type it up as a HTML document, save it as a HTML (or CSS, depending on type of document) and the computer saves it.

Do you know PHP? Like I said, I'm trying to start learning the bare necessities of PHP, but it's all hard. Unlike CSS and HTML, PHP deals with over-complicated strings, variables, etc.

"If Else..." in PHP is just logic. In my example it made that really simple to understand. It said (quoted)

Quote:
Money you have to spend= $15
Money cost to see movie= $20

IF: Yes, we have enough money to go to the movie.
ELSE: No, we don't have enough money to go to the movie.

ANSWER: No, we don't have enough money to go to the movie.

Common sense tells us it's "ELSE" because our brains can automatically tell that. But in PHP it's totally different as a computer needs programming to tell the difference.
Below is the amazingly over-complicated code to do the same exact same I did above.

Code:
<?php
$money = 15;

if($money > 20)
{
echo "Hey we can go to the movie we have $money bucks";
}
else
{
echo "Oops we can't go to the movie we have only $money bucks";
}

?>
This is going to be fun! Honestly, I'd take doing 2,000 lines of pure HTML/CSS instead of 500 lines of PHP, MySQL, PERL, CGI, or any of those over-complicated (but rewarding) scripts!

I'm more programming software then web. I have had to do the IF, THEN, ELSE, ELSE IF. I am a visual basic programmer and I have taken a mySQL course, and 2 web classes. The weird thing with that type of writing code is you will just rip your hair out, then you learn like one thing and your like wow i get it.

I bet programming software is not fun, but rewarding in the end.

I've done more to it. It's going slow.

Although slow, it is starting to look like a website!

Before anyone asks about the photo- my company is called "Garrett's Websites." It has been a concept ever since June but is now becoming a reality. We don't just do websites, we also create Newspaper Ads (no more BORING ads for your business), Brochures, Flyers, and more!

A full list along with prices will be released with our website by December. I do know for sure that our lowest website package (the "Kickstart" package) is going to be around $300-$400 price range (and that's really cheap for a website.)

Good job man. How are you going about getting it out to the web? are you going to purchase the domain name for them in the package price? how long is your domain name last for? Just some questions about your business

Domain lasts for a year. The $300-$400 is not including hosting, and the $300-$400 package is the lowest we offer.

Hosting and Domain will be added to the customers invoice, though. They'll pay it and we'll pass the payment along to the actual host in Charlotte, N.C. All I do in some of the packages is maintain and update their websites for them. Others just want me to design the site and put it in a ZIP file.

One of the things that I "dislike" about my website is the navigation and how it is bullets. Although I think it's pretty cool, I would still enjoy a drop-down menu. But I don't know how to go about installing Superfish, and it's probably best that I just keep my navigation system as is! I'll let the customer choose about Superfish. (For the people who don't know what Superfish is, it is a jQuery-based Roll-Down Navigation Bar.)

Our lowest package for a website will be $300-$400. Our highest package will be around $2,500 (compared to other hosts who charge over $3,000) and will include everything from flash to PHP.

I'd like to have a Plan B just in case things don't go as planned. I know things are not going to go as planned because my town is a farm community (made up mostly of farmers and people who worked in the agriculture.) The way I take it most farmers and ag workers view a website as something not needed (which, sadly for my business, is true.)

I've marketed my whole business to the "Boonslick" area. The Boonslick Area is the area my town, as well as a few other small towns, is in. http://www.mo-river.net/

The website is coming together "okay." Today I did more than yesterday, but still not a whole lot.

Photos are in attachments. I also attached what I had posted in my last attachment batch just for a recap.

I've decided that I'm not going to make websites. It's too much work, too little time, and too little money.

However, I want to build something. I want to make something that will make me money (of course), is in demand, and works.

I don't know what something is yet. Websites are just too painful for my busy schedule.
