Hi, this is my first truck ever and I'm really diggin' it.
I know I need to replace the starter and I have no problem finding a replacement or swappping it out. Since the truck is 14 years old but with only 72,400 I was wondering if I go with a new or rebuilt?
My real concern is the manufacturer to use, is this a part that should only be OEM or can anyone suggest a suitable replacement starter?
So after much analysis paralysis I went and talked to my neighborhood NAPA guy. He had an exact fit that was locally rebuilt by what he assured me was a quality operation. I was going to go with a Denso for the same price (I believe they are the OEM) but would have had to wait on shipping; I’m driving the truck now and the problem is getting worse.
Long story bearable I bought the NAPA starter for $131 and was done in about an hour. There is so much room to work on this truck all I had to do was straddle the curb for a little extra height (didn’t really need it but was easy enough) and crawled under and swapped it out. My wife didn’t think I could do it, I’m not a real gear head but owning a boat you learn fast how to swap out bolt-ons.
