My owners manual say there IS a sensor in the spare (if it is the full size spare), but it will only give a reading if it is installed in one of the front or rear tire positions, not when it is in the spare tire location.
So, the spare isn't the issue, but it may very well have a senosr if you have the full size spare & wheel option.
