Default 6.7 turbo question

after discussing with a friend, he said he removed his turbo silencer ring off his after market turbo on his ford. so i was wondering if our factory turbo has this ring as the older Cummins had them. also we thinking of just getting rid of the baffle in the factory intake tube.

Just wondering if anyone has any imput on this Pros or Cons. just curious also if we even had the ring on the newer turbo before going and tearing the intake out.

Thank you

Yes the new 6.7 cummins has a silencer in the turbo of sorts.

so i took the intake tube off this morning and removed the baffle inside the tubing but then when i went to go remove the silencer on the turbo it looked much different than my buddy 5.9. it almost looks like it is built into the housing of the intake side of the turbo. there is a front beveled edge that looks like it can be removed but cant figure out how and then it also looks like there could possibly be a second ring inside that.

please if anyone has expierience in doing this let me know

thank you

I also removed the baffle/intake silencer, but that is as far as I went. One day I'm gonna do the "Home Depot" mod where you cut a hole in the bottom of the airbox and run a piece of pvc pipe down to pick up additional fresh air.

im just trying to get the turbo to sound a bit louder as it did on my Ford 7.3 i understand we dont run nearly as large of a turbo nor does it sit high up on the firewall as it did on my ford. but just trying to find ways to get the noise up before i dump the money on the SB intake system

has anyone else modified the intake box and got results. i believe the reason of such low noise level is the intake box is restrictive and it helps quiet everything down. if this is true please chime in anyone

My my that silencer is big! From the looks it just pulls out but I may be wrong. Here is a youtube link of a cummins that is getting worked on for the ultimate tow rig.

Anywho at about 2:20 they show him pulling out the silencer real fast. Hope this helps!

Thats the intake Baff/silencer that he pulls out, OP is looking to remove the silencer ring on the turbo compressor housing.
I recall reading about someone wanting to remove the silencer ring on the new VGT turbos, but that you can't because it's part of the housing. If I recall correctly you can cut it off, but the noise increase wasn't worth the effort...or something like that...
Ive only gone as far as removing the baff/silencer in the intake myself.

so i have been doing more research on removing the silencer ring. i have found posts saying that if you drill out the three tiny pins that go from the housing to the ring then i will pop out. however you have to remove the entire from housing off the turbo to get to all the pins. or another option is removing the front housing and having it machined out. all this seems to be way to extreme just to get a unassured noise increase. ill prob just keep it the way it is. im not sure if there is any modifications i can do to the intake box to help make noise, or should i just change out to an S&B intake system

Also, the stock turbo on our trucks is never, ever gonna be as loud as the 7.3 Powerstroke's.
