Default What issues should I be looking for?

Since I've joined I've spent countless hours reading the forums and have learned a lot, including the more time I spend here the more expensive my project is going to be.

I've read about the issues with the plenum, clogged cats, and more. My 98 1500 has almost 180K miles on it. What other issues should I be sure to look for as I begin to bring it back to the glory it deserves?

Sorry to jump in, but I'm curious too. I have yet to put my truck on the road, but I want to know now. I've read about the plenum gaskets clogging the cat and cracking a head. I've also heard from just about everyone out there that these trucks have a lot of transmission problems. What exactly are these problems? Specifically? My truck hasn't even hit 134,000 miles yet.

Sorry to jump in...pretend this is a bump!

elinmon1976 will become famous soon enough

These engines are pretty good. The transmissions are a problem, my 98 1500 had 198K on her when I bought her and the PO had already had the tranny rebuilt so I am not real sure on those specific problems. So far I have: changed plugs and wires, put in a new heater core (not a fun thing to do, but can be a DIY thing), replaced the intake gasket (along with new belt, idler pulleys and such) The PO had a buddy put a new intake gasket on when the Plenum was switched to alumuinum and the buddy folded the corner of the gasket when he put the intake back on which blew when I "tried it out" after purchasing.
I have and am still systematically putting in new injectors (mainly because of cost) so far #'s 1and 8 cyl have started sputtering.
That's the extent I have HAD to do so far...
