Default trans concern...

Lately I've been noticing that when I'm in high gear and I let the truck coast, when it slows down to 45 mph I feel the truck downshift into fourth. I've had this truck since new, it has 30,000 miles on it, and I've only noticed this within the last 5,000 miles or so. Anyone have any thoughts? The trans has always had seamless downshifts, essentially unnoticeable.

Has it been to the dealer lately? The pcm programming gets updates through time(shift schedules, etc) and they check for latest updates every time it's in for service.

Mine is the same, I can feel downshifts(more when coasting than when braking it seems).

It was actually just at the dealer for an oil change about 2 weeks ago. I'll have to call them tomorrow and find out if they checked for updates. Thanks for the reply

Just an update. The dealership found a bulletin regarding the trans issues which entails a pcm update. Going in Mon morning to have it done. Get this though... this update is only covered under a 3/36 warranty. What the hell!? Doesn't that seem a little...Cheap?

I agree. It does seem cheap. From the manufacturers point of view though, that is all they are required to do as per the warranty. You would think that it would be covered under powertrain for 5yr100k.

So far the PCM update seems to be working. No more hard downshifts at 45mph, although I still have the growling/grumbling coming from either the trans or rear end; taking it in this week.
