My trucks birthday is 4/10 but I've already had my diff fixed. Still planning to drop 4.56's in.

So if you don't fall within the dates listed, what is different about these pinion nuts versus ours? My truck falls within the recall dates, I did the proactive tempo fix with locktite and peening the edge of the nut this last spring, now I don't regret it.

That's exactly the same question that's been on my mind. I can't imagine the design differing at all for that from 2009 to 2010 - I guess 2011's had a different diff, but how did they pin down a build date range? It's like I just want to call the dealer and have them put the damned retainer on even if mine falls outside the build range.

I went online and mine comes up as not having any recalls available yet, but I believe notices will officially go out in November so I'm checking again. I have to dig up my build sheet and get my build date as well to confirm I'm in range.

Primo - you are the man. Thanks for that heads up.

My build date is 4/10 so I guess I'm out of range. I actually wish it was in range because I'm not sure what the major difference was just in a four month span?

I am guessing

Manufacturers have multiple suppliers for any part. For example, if XYZ had a strike and caused a supply problem, the manufacturer would be seriously affected.

It's possible that the affected pinion nuts were supplied by a specific supplier. A retainer is easier to install, and reduces the possibility of changing the pinion depth when the pinion nut is re-tightened.

Hey Rainman -

Yeah, I hear you on that. But in the recall, it was stated that the problem was "lack of adhesive" or, as we know, loctite. So that's not a hardware issue, that's an assembly issue.

I guess what you're saying could be correct in that a different plant could have assembled a certain run of the differentials. I thought they were all out of American Axle, but not sure. I guess they still could be assembled at different plants.

I think I'm going to end up having them pull it and check it again anyway. It's the effects of the potential failure that have me concerned.

Same thing with me.

My build date falls within the "recall range" but website and Chrysler rep state I'm okay and no recall. Strange.

Outstanding news! Hopefully nobody has been hurt due to this issue. Just for kicks and grins I looked at my diff and it has some older looking staining on it...no splatter that's been recent and the gas tank is clean but still...every time I drive the truck this issue is on the back of my mind and quite honestly it really makes it difficult to enjoy my time behind the wheel. Where on your build sheet did you find the man date? Chrysler sent my sheet via email but it doesn't mention a man date...
