Default Need Muffler Advice

I've had my 2002 4.7L for a little over a year and the wife is finally letting me spend money on it. I have her convinced that some performance upgrades will save us a boatload in gas. I've since hidden all the calculators.

I've already installed a K&N CAI and love the sound and feel the snappiness improved. I am on a budget and want to start with a muffler replacement leaving the stock pipes in place. I may do some work later on pipes but don't have the cash now.

Sooo. My question to the experienced ones here is what aftermarket muffler will give me the best flow/performance improvement while also sounding good enough to make my testicles just a little larger when I'm rolling down the road?

I've read every thread under exhaust and most of them truncate and become cliffhangers just when they're getting to the good part. I'm really curious to hear how the VMS Racing Muffler performed that snrusnak was asking about. I believe he installed it but never posted any vids, pics, or feedback.

Thanks in advance!

If you are just doing a replacement muffler I would go magnaflow. A 24" has a very nice muscley tone to it, but quiet enough that it won't get super annoying on long trips. When you step on it you know for sure its there though.

Thanks for the reply! Should I see any performance gain?

I did. When I bought the truck I didn't know it had a hole in the muffler so I went from that to the 24" magnaflow and I had a little more torque I thought. I went back to stock and I could for sure feel a lose of performance and I saw a lose of mpg with stock. So you should get both mpg and performance gains (just not at the same time )
Now mine is the hemi and I see you have a 4.7 so maybe a little different, but I would think you still would see both

Also if your wondering why I went back to stock its a long story but I was fine with it because I have a new plan but I did love the sound of that 24" magnaflow

Awesome! Now I just gotta wait til Payday. I would still really like to hear some feedback on the VMS Racing Muffler. I've heard they are modeled very close to the Magnaflows with a good quality build and significantly cheaper. I could have one welded in for a total of $100

I haven't yet installed that VMS muffler. Just extremely busy, and welding it in myself(along with mandrel bends, building a new y pipe, etc) just haven't had the time. I am also modding a buell and that's a priority currently as it's not rideable at the moment. I am trying to get it on though, I'm thinking of just jumping in to it in the upcoming weekends and doing it, we'll see though. I'm sick of people telling me my fan is louder than my exhaust lol.

All that aside, I highly recommend the VMS muffler. After buying it and actually seeing it, the quality is pretty damn good. It IS stainless steel(I've had it for months now, put water on it, it didn't rust). It IS a straight through muffler. Welds appear to be at least decent, closer to good. Well worth the money.
