Default 99 Ram 1500 Dash Replacement

Ive been browsing online looking for a replacement dash, as many have experienced, they crack, and they crack bad. I was proceeding on my new found project, a 99 Ram 1500 4x2 5.2L V8. Bought this truck from a friend of mine, and is my intended project truck for this winter. As in project, i mean new paint, new interior work I.E. new covering on floors (covering meaning, probably not new carpet, probably a different alternative) Now for my question. Has anyone had experience with replacing the dashboard, only need to do the upper portion (under windshield), as i was trying to remove the completely broken free pieces, just breathing on other pieces broke them free accidently, now i no longer have a dashboard to necessarily put an overlay on (the ones that "glue" over, but not familiar with them so not sure if i could actually put one on, and work in a way to fasten onto where the old one once sat.

Any advice, tips, ideas, DIY's, very much welcome. The only dashboard "replacements" i have seen are $400'ish dollars, and a little more than i care to tackle for a dashboard, and the "U-Pick" junk yards, probably wont be much use for a dashboard i imagine.

Thanks all,
Donovan

I have got the same problem with mine and got about the same results out of hours of reaserch. I have tried finding one in a junk yar but they are all craked up like mine and worse. Lol. I plan on doing about the same with my truck though. Paint and all. Needs serious sterio work to. Im starting to blow the old infinity speakers. And now the trannys gone out. Sorry i cant help ya man but its nice to find the same enthusiasm i got.

A friend of mine bought his dash cover on-line for around $130 + shipping. His dash was almost gone. He said it was tedious but he got it done in a day.

Mine is cracked pretty bad too. He looked at mine and said "gee I wish mine was in that nice shape". I've got a pad on mine (came with the truck when I bought it in May).

Mitch

Soli Deo gloria

I used to make custom fiberglass dash covers. I would lay plastic garbage bags over the floor and seats to keep the resin off. taped off every where I didn't want to glass, then layed down tinfoil over shaped Styrofoam then layed the glass down over the tinfoil.

Default Another Option.

If you still have most of the pieces you could try something like this. It worked for me. If you get tired of it at least its solid to put a cover over.

The dash on my 01' is completely destroyed. This winter I gotta replace the evaporator and heater core. So while the dashboard is completely out Ill be replacing the dashboard entirely from the factory. I was gonna sell this truck originally but since have decided to keep it so I might as well make it nice.

I never understood why dodge never just recalled the dashboards......cheap

I saw that but my only concern is sometimes the aftermarket stuff doesn't always fit like the OEM stuff. Unless someone has found their replacements to be pretty good.
