Default 1996 Ram 1500 Ignition Lock Removal Help

I have a 1996 Ram 1500. I need some advice on how to remove the ignition lock cylinder from the ignition switch.

This morning I go to put the key in the ignition and the key rotates as usual as far as the gauges coming on but there is no tension. I called a local locksmith who told me he has seen this many times with this model and in all likelyhood all I needed was to replace the lock cylinder. He charges $180 to come do it (includes part). I can get the lock cylinder at my local CarQuest for $59 but can't seem to figure out how to remove the old one.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Pay the man, I went thru this a few years ago, mind you, this was for a chevrolet, but it was worth it, no airbag screwing around, he used tools I don't have anything which is the equivalent of, etc. If you can somehow afford it, take it off your plate and let someone else handle it. I don't say that often, either!

I would do the same thing as Screamintrashcan said...Pay him...

I mean its hard to dude do itork on these things ( the newer models ) not to mention ignition system...and the toll requirement is a bit more than the average mechanic tool set...

Save some headaches and let the other dude do it ( plus you get a warranty =0) )
