Default Manually shifting an automatic.

I've done this for a while, not every time I drive, but once in a while I get the crave. I start out in first then second and then drive. And the result is my truck flying like a bat out of h*ll. And it's so fun.

But my question, is it real bad on the tranny? I've heard a lot that it's better than just drive, and others say it's worst. Even two different mechanics I know have different opinions. Most of the time I'm driving easy when I do it.
And I rarely ever redline, almost never.

It won't hurt the transmission to shift it manually, I build these transmissions for various applications but I mostly specialize in drag racing and and I like to manually shift them, it's fun and harmless. Matter fact the stock transmissions have alot of shift timing issues and when you shift the transmissions manually you basically work around it. Only thing is that these transmissions have a long slide 2-3 shift. Here read this post I made this should clear alot up about these transmissions. But to answer your question, it won't hurt the transmission. Many people who are unsure of the answer will just say keep it in drive, the difference between your general mechanic is most mechanics don't specialize let alone know how to rebuild a transmission. But then you have people who do specialize and that's is a whole different story. Me I'm more of an engineer so I specialize in everything.

I always shift mine out of O/D manually when going up hills. It stops that thing where it goes in and out of O/D as your speed falls. Uses less throttle to climb too.

Don't believe it makes any difference. The only difference is when the shift occurs, not how it occurs or anything like that. It's still the same shift, just at your timing rather than the truck's timing.

Good answers. I don't really see much wrong with it. Plus it's like my tranny shifts way to early when just in drive.

I really like using the manual shift feature. I've found that leaving it at 3 on a launch is wickedly fast.

A lot of the 3 axle trucks are coming with the automatic transmissions now
Allison makes them for several applications

We were told to shift those automatic transmissions manually, especially under a load
