My 2002 Ram 1500, 4x4, Quad, 5.9, (90k miles) overheats when I put any type of substantial load on it, like a trailer or a boat. However, otherwise, when the weather is cool (below 75 degrees) it does fine as a daily driver. Here are some related issues:
- I lose about a gallon of antifreeze every two weeks or so, but I can't find any leaks, but I can often smell antifreeze.....and this is when the engine is running at normal temperatures.
- I can't find any anti freeze mixed with the engine oil.
- Thermostat is new and water pump and radiator seem to be operating normally.
Can anyone tell my what the problem might be? I was thinking I might have warped one of my heads, but again, I am not seeing a anti freeze mixed with the oil.
