Default Bakflip vp

Anyone have one? im considering getting one soon because i like ts look over the other BAK models since it is smooth and has more of a one piece look even though it is a folding cover.i think it would match my truck alot more smoothly than one with the rhinno liner look to it.any type of reviews would help me in my decision. thank in advance guys.

I put my BakFlip VP on last week. I am pleased with the look and function of the top. The workmenship left a lot of displeasure.

Mine is due to arrive on Tuesday. I know that doesn't help you out at all, but I did want to say: be sure to send AJ @ AA a PM before you buy

If you haven't pulled the trigger by then, I'll post up a second opinion on it.

I had a couple issues with my BakFlip. The directions are a vague guideline, they will give you an idea of how to install, but you will need to figure out most of it. All of the mounting brackets I received were covered with large burrs that I had to de-burr before installing. Once I got the cover on the truck, and got the brackets in the proper position (because the directions are incorrect) I discovered the the (2) mounting plates at the cab, were out of position. Both were 1/2" out of location compared to the brackets. So I had to remove the cover and front drain cups, put the cover back on, determine the correct location of the holes and drill them into the brackets. Now my mounting bolts are inside the drain cups.
As to how the vinyl will hold up, I think it will do fine, I don't plan to have it folded up a lot, so I think it will last as long as a "normal" soft cover.

So I received and installed my VP yesterday.

First impressions are good. They use an expanding foam, kind of like the insulation they use in homes these days, to pack the cover. It would take something drastic happening for the cover to be damaged in shipping. Shipping was fast. I ordered on Wed. and the cover got to me -- CA to OH -- on Tues.

I didn't have any of the issues Mguire did. The brackets and rails were cut well with no burs or marring of any kind. Installation was straight forward and easy. Took me about an hour and that's including having to stop for the phone and a few other things popping up. I didn't even look at the included instructions. The most time consuming part is setting the cover itself. I set and reset it 5-6 times just to be sure it was sitting on the bulkhead and tailgate the way I wanted it to.

As for it's weather worthiness. I think it will do fine in all but a Tsunami. I washed my truck today, and the only water that got into the bed was around the tailgate (as I suspected). And I'm not talking standing water. There were a couple of damp spots on either corner. And that's a direct hit with a hose. It will be fine with a typical rainstorm.

My only complaint is with the locking stays. They're a bit flimsy. I wouldn't be comfortable driving over 50 mph with the cover folded up but I could be underestimating their strength.

Oh! one other thing. It was my understanding that this cover didn't have the capability to be only partially open. Not true. Each panel locks individually, and D rings are included to bungee the loose panel(s).

Overall, I'm happy with my purchase. I think the cover is a bit spendy at it's advertised price, but the qoute I got from AJ@AA brought it more inline with what I think fair market would be.
