Default Ball joints

When changing over my winter tires last week, I noticed some slight movment equally in the LH & RH upper ball joints. I only have 115,000kms on my Ram. Is there normal movement in them? The movement was side to side(left to right). I didn't feel any up & down.

I don't know if this movement is considered normal or not but I will tell you this much....the ball joints are known for needing early replacement on these trucks. From what I have read as early as 60K miles and likely no later than 100K. That isn't to say you couldn't run them longer but that seems to be a good range to expect to see wear in them. My truck has 76K on it and both of the lowers could use replacing. If you are at 115K km then you are right in that range as well.

Thanks for the reply. That's pretty poor life if you ask me! The fact that they're non greaseable says alot though. My '91 Dakota with 260,000km were all original, but were greased regularily.

** Correction....my truck has 71K so the ball joints wore out 5K miles sooner than a originally posted, lol.

Also, I'm all for buying locally but you can potentially save some good money getting these parts online. It's been a few months since I checked but I found Moog parts at the cheapest price on Amazon. Good luck!

Like starquestbd22 said, the factory ball joints are junk to say the least.. I just had to replace my lowers because they were so bad my tire almost fell off. I went with moog greaseable ones
