Well as far as fuel milage goes Doesn't matter how I drive or if city or highway I get 12 to 13 MPG and thats not estimated or by looking at the computer read out. That's checked by actual gallons going in after recording the miles. New Champion copper core plugs, new wires and air filter. Only thing wrong is that cannister code. Friend of mine is getting one of those smoke machines so I'm hoping to find where that fault is coming from. I put a new gas cap on and checked all the hoses which look new. Wonder why? LOL! Also has the optional wheels 8.5 x 17 inch with 4 cooper 285x70x17s on it. When you go from a stop you have to feather the fuel pedal being as it will break the rear tires loose!

I like those rims. Mine shows it came stock with those, although the previous owner put 20's on.

Mine has good power, but I'm wondering if I may have a small plenum leak due to the gas mileage... I have only put 2 tanks in, and the first time, my trip odometer got reset accidentally, so I'm still waiting to hand calculate it. Sweet spot in mpg seems to be 50-55 with the 4.10's.

I'm curious to see how the smoke test goes for you.

From what he tells me about the smoke machine he can test many functions with it. He's a small one man garage that mostly does exhaust and brakes. But he said he has roughly a dozen or so calls a month on those kind of problems and seems without the smoke machine are very difficult to find the problem so he decided to go for one. He told me as soon as he gets it he will call and see what we can find. I would think if your plentum gasket is leaking it will be using some oil and not running quite right. They say no difference in gas milage though. Take off the air box on the throttle body open the throttle and look down the throat so to say! If you see oil down there it is probably time to think about replacing it. This guy is the only guy I let touch any vehicle I have. I used to do all my own work but getting older Some things I leave for him to do. I've known him since he was a teenager and he's mid 40s now. Post your milage when you get it calculated!

What you said about the EVAP emissions seems to go in line with what I have read. Other than if there's an obvious issue with the hoses, it would be hard to diagnose what the problem is without a smoke test.

Truck seems to run well, other than idle fluctuates a tiny bit. Maybe 25 RPM, but its not noticeable unless you stare at the tachometer.

And I'll definitely post up the MPG. Won't be long, this truck guzzles fuel.

Would LPG not be an option? More bang for your buck, almost zero emissions, no carbon build up in the engine and a lot cheaper than petrol. I got a 160l tank in my 98 2500 V10, gives me 360+ miles going at motorway speed. 70mph @ 1950RPM.

Not an option for me. I live way out in the country in the mountains and I couldn't even tell you where I could even get it. I have a high efficiency gas furnace for times between summer and winter when temps are 45 to 65 and they charge me $3.99 a gallon for that. I mainly heat with wood pellets. So I don't think the change to LP would be any good unless I was close to the city.

I agree with Tinman. It would be an added espense to convert to LP, not to mention the headache of trying to fill it.

I live in the city for college, but at my parents house, they use propane since they are out in the sticks. It's expensive.

I thought I'd give an update on gas mileage:

The overhead display said I was getting 11.5 with a 110 mile hwy trip and the rest of the tank was city driving.

Hand calculated was 11.4 mpg. Surprisingly, the computer is really accurate on my particular truck. I'll still hand calc a few more times to check.

Theres not a lot of difference here between yours and mine in miles per gallon. Being the difference in over all milage on the trucks I would say your right in line where it should be. And I have a tip for anyone having a Flame Red truck. If you go to Ace Hardware and get the Rust Stop paint in Equipment Red it matches the factory paint like it was mixed for it. Still no smoke machine so still waiting for that.

I'm going to change the spark plugs out and do new wires soon. I did it on my last truck and I got about 1 mpg more since the old plugs were pretty worn. I will say that this truck has caused me to drive way more conservatively due to the gas mileage.

That's good to know about the paint, I'll have to do some investigating of my own to see what matches mine. I almost wish mine was red, yours is so sharp. Although being young and in a college town would make me wish I didn't have red.
