Default Newb here, needs some input....

Hi all!
I just joined up tonight, after buying my first real Ram! A 2001 1500 Quad-cab 4wd with the 5.9L V8 with only 73k after a week of me drivin' her around! Had the tranny rebuilt by the dealer, as well as new Toyo Open Country AT's, and new brakes all around!
When I go her last Friday, she had a skip goin' on, but no lights on the dash etc.. So I replaced the plugs and wires and it improved greatly. Still had a minor skip goin' on, so yesterday I replaced the distributor cap and rotor, both bad! So further improvement obviously.
Well it still seems to flutter while cruising at highway speeds or when trying to decide whether or not to downshift.

Overall, I'm stoked over my new truck, but my mild OCD want's it freakin' perfect. Have I overlooked anything concerning the ignition wires, plugs, cap, and rotor or do I need to be looking somewhere else under the hood?

Thanks in advance for any and all input!

J.

Look around for some posts about the intake gasket. I understand it is a common issue with the 5.9.

Thanks for the input!

Where besides the intake gasket would you suggest looking? The intake gasket appears quite dry. There are no engine lights on, idles really smoothly. Acceleration is smooth with no issues that I can feel. This I only feel if cruising at highway speeds or if just starting to climb an incline, when the truck is deciding whether or not to downshift.

Thanks again,

J.

Default Update........

Well, I had the day off and went over to the local garage that helps me with some diagnostic stuff from time to time, and plugged the 'ol girl up to the computer and took her for a little look see.
Throttle position sensor was all over the freakin' place, so we ordered an OEM Mopar module and replaced the ailin' part. Runs like brand new!!!!
I'm so stoked!!

Thanks for the input!!

This is great news! There are benefits to hooking up to the diagnostic computer sometimes. It appears this is one of those times and a TPS is one of nicer items to have to replace.

+1

Yep, there are benefits to hookin' up a diagnostic!
....and after reading through several posts, and members having to chase their tails trying to find the culprit, I know I'm quite lucky and blessed.
Just glad to have her runnin' right!!
