Default Mirror removal

I guess that I originally posted this to the wrong area in the site.

I have a 2006 3500 Ram with the movable mirrors which swing out for towing.

The motors are very sluggish and I suspect that the gears have crud in them. How do I remove the mirror to get to the motors? The mirrors are the heated type.

Any assistance appreciated.

Thanks

Here is the service manual section on the Side Mirrors -

Hope this helps.

Angry More problems

Well, I was just out to the truck and, although the mirror body looked just like the illustration, I could not find the release clip, or anything that looked like it.

I poked and pushed just about everything in there that I could reach without breaking the glass, no luck.

The mirrors are the electric drive type with heated glass. Did they change the design mid stream or what?

Help!, any other suggestions?

Default Tow Mirrors....

I have the same, "new" type of Tow Mirrors. Busted the Driver's Side glass (*(&^(*&*(^). Bought a replacement mirror/glass/plastic backside assembly. Reviewed the old one - seems to have to "push inward" and then slide left to "snap" a lever into place. Tried it the other night up here in cold VT; had to turn the mirror fully outward. No luck, hard to do; DIDN'T want to snap the new mirror too!

Suggestions very appreciated folks! Sources, directions? This version doesn't have the retention spring/band that is noted in the 2006 Service Manual (maybe change mid-stream?), probably changed for 2007's and we got an early 2nd version....?

I will have to review this as well, I have the tow set on my 08 and the passenger side cracked when I backed into the corner of the house! DOH!!!! Just bought another mirror on ebay, but if I can just replace the broken mirror I will save some green. Anyone else try this and had success??

Purchased a new 2500 tow mirror from Ebay a couple weeks ago, and tonight I tried to get my broken lens off to show how to do it. Here are some photos with a little description.

2500 Tow Mirror with Defrost and power.

Mirror housing with the mounting tabs... notice the tabs pointing to the mounting base of the housing.

The Mirror, with the "female" end of the tabs facing to the right.

The "male" end of the tabs that the mirror clips into on the housing.

See the trick is, and yes the mirror was already broke, when you want to take the mirror out, disconnect the defrost connectors and then you have to push the mirror over in the direction of the mounting studs on the mirror housing. In this case, the RH Mirror, you push to the left.

To reinstall the mirror, place on the housing tabs and push the mirror over to the end of the housing. In this case, the RH Mirror, you push to the right.

Hi, I have the same mirrors on my 07 & I have a cracked glass. I tried today to remove the glass/backing. I had the locking tab depressed, but couldn't move the backing to the left, it felt like it was stuck. I didn't want to force anything & break anything else. Is there room with the mirror backing turned inward to the left to slide the glass out?
Your pictures are very clear, I might try again tomorrow. Im assuming your mirrors are the same as mine, as you mentioned they were the newer style.

Yes, as long as they are 2500 Tow Mirrors, they should be the same. Just push as you can, because if the glass/plastic break more you are ok.. It is when the retainer of the mirror breaks is when you will have problems.
