I had a diagnotics test ran on my 2006 ram 1500. The problems I have with my truck pointed to the TIPM. But while researching the TIPM it was referred to as the ECM by a parts store attendant. He showed me photos and they look like the same component. Are they the same or two different items?

the only advice i have is my own experiences. The TIPM is underneath the bottom of the fuses and is pretty much the brains of the truck. In my 06 2500 the TIPM went out... This was caused because I used HIDs and the way I had them setup was running off of one circuit. Therefore the other circuit malfunctioned after 50 key turns without power. This caused my TIPM to practically shut down. It did partially work. The only issues it showed was my passenger headlight circuit wasnt getting any power, causing me to run in my high beams 24/7... The TIPM is very finicky, Chrysler did a bad design by not putting relays in there in case of short circuit, they go out very often. My dealership probably fixes fried TIPMs once a week or two. Also, they are expensive... I think they run anywhere between $800-$1200... Plus you cant buy them used due to the fact they are vin locked. Once installed they must be programmed to your truck. One way to check if the TIPM is bad is to plug up a diagnostics tool, if it cannot communicate with the truck then it is your TIPM, it will tell you it cant communicate. The TIPM is what communicates with the Diagnostic tool and the truck.
