Default Under seat install question

First off I don't know anything about how to make sure a sound system works well so this may be a stupid question. I see almost everyone making a wood template and then making the box out of fiberglass in the shape of the holes under the seats. Is this the best way to do it? Also would it be possible to mount the speaker in a wood template and use the holes as they were for the box and mount the template into the floor board? Any help would be great guys. Also if you could recommend speakers that work well down there and fit nicely.
Thanks Y'all!

Save yourself the headache and just go with a pre-made sub-woofer box.

Fox Acoustics

JL Audio SB-D-QDRAM/10W3v3

these are just two of the ones off the top of my head...

as for sub-woofer driver... it's a matter of preference just look for one the has the right specs for the type of box your getting.
personally I went with Alpine Type R woofer

I bought an Obcon dual 10" box from a local stereo shop and put 2 10" JL Audio W0's in it. Will upgrade to W3's at some point but will have to raise back seat to do it or build a different box. Pre-fabbed box was about $150.

To answer your questions tho about just using the floor for the bottom of your box...this would only work well with free air subs. Regular, every day subs require a sealed or ported enclosure to factory specs for the subs to perform well. Check out the manufacturer's websites for their specs on their subs that you are interested in using. Things to look for are mounting depth, enclosure volumes for sealed and ported.

Kicker comp's are a sub that will work in a free-air setup. That being said, free-air setups NEVER work as good as a sealed or ported enclosure. I would do like others have suggested and just get a prefab box, using subs w/ the correct volumetric requirements. Sound quality will be best w/ a sealed enclosure using a sub designed for small sealed enclosures.

I wont quote anyone here because all of you have helped so much guys. Thank you so much for the help. Probably going to go for a prefab box and stick some alpines in it.
