Default What's great about your hometown?

What is great or make's you proud of your town?

I'll start:
I live in Ilderton, Ontario, Canada
The population is about 1000.
I know most people who drive big bad Rams are not figure skating fans, but maybe some of their wives are.
Ilderton is home to the Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir. They won the gold metal at the last Olympics in Ice Dance and are also the current World Champions.
Also it is the home of Matt Read who was a rookie last year for the Philadelphia Flyers.

Joliet, IL 150,000 people. I wouldn't call it greatness but there has been about 30 MLB players. 10 NFL players including Tom Thayer, Mike Alstott. 5-10 NBA players including George Mikan. A few actors and actresses. My high school has won 13 state football championships. If you have ever seen the movie "Rudy", the inspiration for the film, Dan Ruettiger, is from and went to high school here. Lionel Richie went to high school here. One of Americas Next Top Model winners Adrianne Curry is from here. There are 3 high schools, a NASCAR and NHRA track, a private Motoring Country Club that hosts Car and Driver for testing vehicles.

I was raised in what is western Connecticut, back then it seemed everyone went to church, so everyone seemed to know everyone elses business. The fun part was spotting all the movie stars & actors that had property in the small towns, we delivered grain to a few of their farms, very seldom were the owners there.

Now i live in San Diego County, in the town where NasCar racer Jimmy Johnson's family lives, everyone that i know seems to know him & his family, i didn't know it, but i used to drink with him & his buddies, they even built my workbench that is out in the garage. ( Johnson was born in El Cajon, California, and began racing motorcycles at the age of five. After graduating from Granite Hills High School he competed in off-road series. He raced in Mickey Thompson Entertainment Group (MTEG), Short-course Off-road Drivers Association (SODA) and SCORE International, winning rookie of the year in each series )
The best part of living here, is that any part that is needed to customize a vehicle & any service to install it, is located here within a 30 minute drive

I was born in Shreveport, LA, with a population of ~220,000. The city itself has lots of history dating back to the Civil War. Many famous people, including, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Hank Williams Jr, Kix Brooks, James Burton, and Johnnie Cochran were born in Shreveport. The first Shriners Hospital for Children was opened here in 1922. Lots of history here

Now I live in Keithville LA. No history, just rednecks and farmland

Belcoville, which is part of Weymouth Township, NJ. Belco is short for Bethlehem Loading Co., a munitions supplier during WWI. They built this town as part of the ammo plant. After the war the plant was disassembled and hauled away. There are some ruins left at the park in Estell Manor, also along a stretch of Rt 50 there are some curiously identical houses, these are officers quarters leftovers (people still live in them).
