Default Chrysler Recall M34

Just got an email saying that starting in the beginning of November Recall M34 will be issued in the 4th generation trucks. It states that the rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to a lack of adhesive. if it loosens the axle can lock up and cause a loss of vehicle control and or crash with little warning. Dealers will install a Pinion nut Retainer to correct this concern.

Just wanted to make sure everyone was aware of an up and coming recall.

Chrysler recalling pickups

Posted on October 8th, 2012 • by Bill Cawthon
Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2009-2010, Ram 1500 and Dodge Dakota trucks, manufactured from July 1, 2009, through November 30, 2009, because a rear axle pinion nut may loosen due to a lack of adhesive.
Chrysler will notify owners, and dealers will install a pinion nut retainer, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in November 2012. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.
Chrysler’s recall campaign number is M34. Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number: 12V474000 NHTSA Action Number: PE12021
Summary: The Office of Defects Investigation has received 12 complaints alleging rear differential failures resulting in rear wheel lock-up in model year (MY) 2009 through 2010 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks. The complaints allege failures at various speeds with eight of the incidents reporting failures at speeds of 35 mph or greater. Four of the complaints involving higher speed incidents allege that the failure resulted in a loss of control (e.g., vehicle spin, skid or yaw), including one resulting in a crash into a concrete barrier. One complaint reports that the failure was caused by loosening of the rear differential pinion nut. Most of the complaints allege that the failure resulted in drive shaft failure including one that reported the detached shaft end pu

A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency and potential safety consequences of the alleged defect.

I took my truck in for an oil change and they told me there was a recall on it. Then I learn that the part is not available until early next year.

For anyone who's truck is effected by this recall the information is now in the system and you can now check your VIN to see if you fall under the recall.

https://www.moparownercenter.com/oc/...nersLogin.aspx

That is a good place to go. Also you can call your dealer with your VIN and they will be able to check for you.
