I also have this POS 730N system.

Pulling my fiver I routed a trip to Zion NP in Utah, camping destination in Virgin, UT. I had the option checked to avoid tunnels since I know there is a tunnel in the park that I am oversized for. The system simply replied to me there is a tunnel on the route and no other route is possible.

Here is what really is happening... The 730N simply found no other route because the correct route goes from the Utah map to the Arizona map. From Kanab, UT the 730N wants to route to the north to UT-9 which is the NP road with the tunnel. The route to take to avoid the tunnel is to head south from Kanab into AZ to AZ 389 going through Colorado City, AZ to Hurricane, UT. I knew this from looking at a map myself. Shouldn't a nav system do this for me? This alt route was not even on the list of optional alt routes. Simply was not aware of this other route.

Junk!

Hi again all and Merry Christmas.
I just found out yesterday that there is complimentary 2013 Map update available for the 730N RHR but it is only available to vehicle manufactured between Jan. 1, 2012 and June 30, 2012. Sounds like the DVD and information was sent out to the owners of those vehicles. Then the owner has to go to www.navigation.com/rhr/freshmap to receive and activation code. Also another catch is this is only available until Dec. 31, 2012.
I bought my truck in December of 2011 and Navteq will not give me the complimentary update. I contacted Chrysler Canada and they were not able to do anything either other than refer me to a dealership. I contacted the dealer I bought the truck from and they now the history of the issue with me and this navigation system. They are willing to reimburse me for the cost of the upgrade and I have now ordered the update disk and have my activation code.
Along with a call from the sales manager I received an email from the sales representative that replaced the guy I bought the truck from and I had a call from the service manager. The service manager told me that one of his techs was able to find some options on the 730N RHR for another customer with the same routing issues and changing these options made the unit work better for this other customer. They want me to bring in my truck and give it a try on my truck as well.
I will take the truck in to the dealer in January and then do the map update and see what the results are. I will keep you up to date as to what happens.

I would be very interested in the process for making the RHR work better. I was lucky enough to get disc for my vehicle....the software update did not help...hopefully the map update will have more "verified" data and fix the routing.

I don't have my hopes up...so I like to know the steps that the dealer goes thru to make the routing better.

Keep up in the loop.

What if "someone" was able to make an ISO of the disc, park it in the cloud somewhere so the less fortunate can take advantage?

I've had both. The 730 was in my Jeep Commander. Now I have the 430N which is Garmin. The 430N is far superior and is the cheaper option.
Makes me wonder if someone from the government got involved in making the 730?

I think that you would have to find a way around using the activation code
I believe that would mean that you would need a Master disk, like the one the dealership has

Also Garmin gets their maps through NAVTEQ, they must write their own software after getting the maps

The current radios are made by either Mitsubishi Electronics or Harman Kardon
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The 2013 Ram radios may even be worse than the current ones, as far as mapping
The new radios will be made by Conti or Harman Kardon

This is what was known about the 2013 Uconnect 2 Media Centers, when the article was written

I think the map update is tied to the VIN. You can already get the software update for the unit online.

The map update is tied to the VIN and as far as I know that will make the activation code different for each one. The dealership, after they realized how poor the 730N navigation was started ordering the vehicles with a 430N in the truck in place of the 730N.
I would like to be in the shop with the dealership tech and see the options that he changes to possibly make the 730N route better. If I can be there while he is doing it, I will pass on the information.
The software update is available online and I have my unit up to date with the software and it has not make any difference. I hope the map update will help and if that doesn't work I hope the option changes that the dealership tech tries will work. After that, if nothing works, I think I will try and see if the dealer will not replace the unit with a 430N.
