Default 2001 pontiac sunfire problem

So, I know, kinda random. I posted this in a pontiac forum, and no one has answered. My girlfriend has a 2001 pontiac sunfire. When it is idling and when it is driven down the road, it stops running on 4 cylinders and starts running on 2 cylinders and driving really terrible. She is trying to get it ready to sell, and I don't want her selling garbage. Any thoughts or input that some one has, please let me know. Thanks a lot everyone.

Not sure which motor you have . Could be a coil pack . One coil pack controls two cylinders on alot of these four cylinders . But also if you loose one cylinder in a four cylinder it feels like the end of the world . Could also be something as simple as a good tune up .

he is right coil packs are usually the culprit on those things. I had problems with them on my eclipse. If it starts running bad again pull a wire off the coil back stick a screw driver to the pack and the wire and see if its getting spark. If its not then you found it

hey, thanks a lot guys. I will check it out, and see if that's what it is. it's either a 2.2 or a 2.4 I believe. Could be wrong. Thanks a lot for the quick replies, and I will write back if that wasn't it. I love the brainstorming that goes on here. Thanks again.

No shouldnt' affect anything. If both cylinders went out at the same time it should be a coil pack. If only one went out (which would feel like crap on a four banger) than it could just be a bad sparkplug or wire. But i'm going to put my vote with coil pack as well.
