My other tow vehicles had 3.73's so when I bought this truck I had some reservations. My first trip out I was extremely impressed with how it towed. Granted some of the higher mountain passes, (I live in Colorado) would require a lower gear than I had been used to using in the old trucks the power of the hemi pulled better than any of the others and I have yet to find a mountain that I cant pull at the speed limit. Maybe getting used to the higher gearing will take a little while but overall I think you will like it. 25000 mile tow average is 9.3 mpg.
My trailer is an ultralight, 4000lbs for right now, so fully loaded I can't see being more than 5k with water. I too have the 2009 SLT with 3.55 gears, but I do have the tow package. I haven't actually towed anything yet
I just know that my old 2000 GMC Denali with the 350 was 255hp and about 310lbs of torque. So I am expecting better performance from this Dodge. I was kind of worried about the 3.55 gears at first, but I think the HP and Torque will more than make up for it. If not, it will be a simple re-gear. I used to average 9.5 towing with my Denali and I really expect no different results. Whenever you are dragging 13k+ down the road, something has to fuel it
