Default Need Help

Ok guys I will be as detailed as I can about this but I'm no expert. I have a leak (oil, I think) coming from the line that runs from the cooler to the top port on whatever the thing is called attached to the rack and pinion. I don't know if you call it a steering box or what. All I do know is the steering shaft comes down and connects to it. There are 4 lines that come out of this "thing" and two are small and feed back into the rack. The other two are larger and one goes to the power steering tank ( I think) and the other goes to the cooler. It is leaking at the end that goes into the "steering box". Can someone please tell me a) can I just put a hose clamp on it to stop the leak or b) what it is called so when I go to the parts store I don't look like a fool. Thanks.

Could you take a picture? I don't think the power steering has a cooler on it, but I could always be wrong. So maybe its your power steering reservoir. If its leaking you might want to replace the hoses, and the clamps.

Here is a picuture of a new rack from Advance Auto Parts. The piece I am asking about is the piece on the top left of the rack. It looks like it has a small gear sticking out the top of it.

Given the age of your truck and the fact that the line has likely dried out somewhat, I would replace it.

Ok. Can you tell me what to ask for at the parts store? Is it a steering box cooler line?

I would call it a power steering return line ans since the cooler is in the middle, you need to specify that it's the one between the gear and cooler.
