i used to have a cheap cobra radio and antenna from walmart. only cost $50. worked good for talking to your buddies while you are wheeling. i never wanted a serious cb or a permanent one so i just used a 12v adapter for power and ran the coax through the rear window then i would take it out when i wasn't using it.

OP...with several years of trucking driving experience I've used several different CB's. For the use you are describing a Cobra 29 will do all you need and then some. The big thing you need to be sure of with whatever you get is the check the SWR reading once your radio and antenna are hooked up. If they are too high you will had bad TX/RX and you will end up burning up the radio. You can buy a cheap SWR meter if the radio you buy does not have one built in. You can lower the SWR by shortening the whip length. Remember...only cut small amounts...what you take off cant be put back on.
