Well I don't know what to tell you, I guess you have an aluminum heater core, I have two copper heater cores and a 3-row racing radiator. But when the heater core valve is open say I'm running in 210F, if I open up the heater cores I drop down to about 145F.
I can show you pictures of a heater core valve but I don't think that is going to do you any good, though everything on the dodge van is the same as the pickup except the body, the heater valve will be located in a different place.
Underheating for this guy I doubt, that is why I said to check the temperature sensor. I had a busted up sensor and I kept getting a very very low reading, replaced the sensor and found out that I was really overheating because of a clogged radiator (hense the new aluminum 3 row racing radiator). The sensor is a brass probe but the internals are plastic injected, when that sensor gets hot the plastic overtime becomes like rubber and cracks.
But if it isn't the sensor it could be the heater control valve is open or leaking and some of the hot coolant is being cooled down in the heater core. Again I doubt this but it is a possibility. The reason why I doubt this is because the heater core outlet is where the gauge temp sensor is.
