A 315/70/17 will not fit on a 2006-up truck without spacers or aftermarket wheels with less offset (or more negative offset). I believe you could fit this size on a 2005 or older truck. Everything I have read indicates that you can run a 35x12.50 on these trucks and a 315/70/17 is only 12.4" wide and 34.3" tall.
Well i have an 02 its the first year of the new body style, it looks like there is plenty of room to squeeze them in there but is like to know for certain before I buy anything because I really don't like the idea of spacers.

I had an 05 (same suspension as the 02) w/12.5" wide tires (pretty much the same width as the 315) and ran spacers. I believe you will need to run a 1/4 spacer at the least.

Are you running one of the slip on spacers?

I have searched a lot and found mixed results. Some say it will run fine and others say it requires a spacer. I wonder if it does rub is it just a rub on the sway bar at full lock? If so, that could really be avoided with proper steering control. I still tend to say it should fit without too much trouble but at the same time, I am basing my guess on my knowledge of what will fit on the OEM 20" rim without rubbing. Obviously, the OEM 17" rim is going to be different.

I was passing by a local shop yesterday and saw and big ol BFG on an aftermarket chrome rim so I stopped to take a look. Turns out it was a 315/70/17 and let me tell you that is a huge bitch, lol. It was actually a five lug so I'm gonna go back today and see if I can figure out what pattern it is. My guess is that it came off of a Jeep Wrangler so the pattern is probably too small for our trucks.

Default tires

ive got a 2nd gen ram and have 275/65/20s so i know your truck will fit them because you have more clearance. heres a pic of my tires for your viewing...by the way i got them all installed out the door 1100 not bad for a fairly large tire!

unfortunitly i just put 315/ 70/ 17 on my 2011 dodge ram with a leveling kit. there is plenty of room for turning but not enough room by the upper ball joint so it rubs pretty bad. i am heading up to summit racing to get some after market rims tomorrow. i just dont know how much negitive offset to get. another issue is i need to get a wider rim because the tire bulge also affects the distance from upper ball joint. any one have any input on rim offset and how wide?

Most tires on the summit site (book at least) show you how wide a rim you need to run that tire. If that doesn't work, I would call a manufacturer and find out directly. You can get spacers for a lot less than rims, or if you know any machinists, they should be able to make some for you pretty easily. I'm one and a spacer would be pretty basic to make. Can't believe how much they charge for something so easy.
