Default 12 express h/u question

I'm putting a pioneer dvd in my express truck. Do I have to buy that huge wiring harness that's like $65 to make it work I am not using any oem speakers or wiring. I have all new wiring from a 5 channel amp to each door and dash. The only thing I need for the h/u is power, gd, remote and memory.
TIA
Greg!

its always nice to be able to put things back to factory condition if you for some reason get rid of the truck .

just being able to unplug connectors and put things back to factory in minutes is nice .

I agree 100% , but is there a basic harness that doesn't do things I don't need like steering wheel controls and other things an express doesn't have?

I ordered the $65 PAC harness for my 12 express crew and the plugs did not fit ..I might have gotten the wrong part number but what a PAI with dodges wiring..

I went the route of running my own 12v power to the fuse box and to 12v assc.
I used the factory speaker wire connections but cut enough off the wires that if i needed to put the factory harness back on i can.. The only fuction i dont have is the dimmer that i would not use with my jvc kw-av70bt
Everything works great .. I did use the ground wire from the dash.

Sometimes the harness works great and sometimes not .. In the case of Dodge/Ram you need the harness because of the power issues i guess..I like the old school way myself !

Good luck to ya and trust me the wires are the least of it wait till you start trimming metal and plastic behind the dash!!
