Hey Jim,

I was in your exact shoes in 05 when I first picked up my Ram... I looked to the forums for potential performance upgrades and the fellow Ram brethren (like Matt at Moes) were always doing R & D to see what makes our Hemi's go. Now, in terms of shifting, the powerband on our Hemi's comes in at higher rpms and the way our stock shifts are, it tends to shift before it reaches it. At wot it's ok but when your cruising around town it shifts too early for me. That's why I installed a floor shifter and I manual shift about 70 percent of the time. As for the Y pipe, take a look at your stock Y, don't know why Dodge pinches it when it goes 2 to 1 so that's definitely a bottleneck. I run the 180 for a couple reasons, it keeps me from running lean and the pcm tends to advance timing with it cooler which gives it a crisper throttle response. The stock tstat is 203 degrees which Dodge uses to get a complete burn for emissions. When i go to track i will swap in a 170 tstat which makes it perform even better...

Nice setup! TOOO much temptation for me having that in my D.D. I would love to ditch my column shifter but with the +/- shift button on there, I is scared to mess with it. Oh and thanks for the info on the 180 degree thermostats. I was under the impression that running below man. temp specs would cause premature cyl. and ring wear.

Fred - thanks again for all the help and understanding. As to the Y-pipe i will definatly look into that. Now that you mention it, I think Moes had one. I assume you would recomend I get a high flow cat? Or did i read to that I can turn off that cat sensor and run without one? (with a tuner) As to the T-stat that makes sense but i would think timing advance could all be done by a tuner or a person who writes tunes? I really enjoy shooting the sh** with ya. I love how much i am learning.

Regards!
Jim

sorry it took me forever to get back to you. sean charges 125$ if you have your own pred tuner. you will need a ac plug for it to power it on in your house and the data plug witch connects the unit to your computer. from that point its all done through ds downloader(gotten from diablo web sight) and emailing. i lucked out and sean had a used pred with all the cables and his tuning on it for 200$ he is a great guy to deal with and very helpful if you are stuck on something. he also does lifetime upgrades too if you cam swap or heads or what not

Zipper - thanks for the response! The more I am learning about these tuners, the more i am wanting one. At first i said i was not going to waste the money but now that i hear you can not only get more power but better gas milage at the same time I think i will be able to justify it. I will most likely wait til spring to get one however since I dont drive my truck in the winter time anyhow. Now you mentioned that Sean does life upgrades - does this mean if i go ahead and have him and have him tune my truck now and then at a later date i decide to put on headers, he will refine the tune to accomodate them free of charge?

yup..Sean is cool about that and again, he's been tuning our hemi's since almost day 1, he understands the quirks that the trucks have vs the lx hemi's.
