Default Water leaking into #6 Igniter?

For the second time in two weeks, each following a heavy rain, the engine in my 2002 1500 Ram begins to run rough. The check engine light comes on. The next day, once the truck dries off, the light disappears and the engine seems to run normally. A check of the code says the problem is the #6 igniter.

I just had it replaced last month when it was consistently running rough. I took it back to my shop and the mechanic couldn't find any problem. He did say that he knows a Dakota owner that has/had the same condition. Always happening right after a heavy rain. Two days ago, the temperature dropped well below freezing following the rain. In addition to the rough running, I could now smell gasoline in the cab. I parked it. Has anyone encountered this problem? Any suggestions how to fix it? Thanks.

OK, so is the question I asked the other too ridiculous for an answer?

When you say igniter, is this the spark plug, coil, ...? If water is getting on to the engine something is wrong. No water should get in this area, I don't see how it could with the hood shut, it'd have to be sprayed up on top of the engine.

Default Any resolution on this?

Hey, KathyP, how are things? I'm just curious if you ever found the cause of this problem? I wonder if extreme humidity (ie; hard rains) and a loose connection could be the problem. Does it still do this or did you resolve it?
