Default Exhaust Question

I just bought a used 2001 Ram 1500 5.9L and it has some mods already on it. One thing I noticed was the it seems like the exhaust was cut right after the Catalytic converter. There is no muffler. its just the headers to the cat then nothing after that. How does that affect the performance and does it cause any issues if I were to leave it like that for now? Thanks.

Carbon monoxide could be an issue . Need to get it exited out from underneath the vehicle . Other than that , is the check engine light on or off . Thats the only issue I could see .

No i dont have a check engine light on. And if i'm moving then the CO would just be blown out from underneath right? I've got about 5 feet or so of exhaust pipe underneath the truck. it just doesn't go all the way to the back and it doesn't have the muffler.

As long as it exits from under neath the cab of the truck . It can exit underneath the bed of the truck as long as you don't have a cap on it . I believe thats the way the laws are written here in Md . I wouldn't want it exiting under my truck , especially if you have the windows up . Carbon monoxide is odorless and will put you to sleep without you knowing it . I would still exit it out from under neath . Just a 90 degree elbow and a couple of feet of pipe to be safe .

Thanks for the advice. I'll have to look into that.
