Default Installed Kenwood DNX6180 nav unit

I had this Kenwood in the garage from another vehicle I had and I am so used to looking over and seeing a map of where i am . LOL

I bought the installation kit from ebay . $85 - came with the
PAC C2R_CHY4 , antenna plug and the mounting brackets

http://www.ebay.com/itm/250893302443...84.m1423.l2649

this is their 2010 model i think

my 2010 does not have the outlet on the right side of the radio surround so i only had to remove the 2 - T20 torx from the top .

I sat at the kitchen table for about 30 minutes splicing the the harnesses together , the colors were exact and the direction on what to do was right on. they give you 2 harnesses in the kit -- one for alpine amp set up and one without amp.

after the face plate was off I just let it hang down , I didnt disconnect any of the heater control or the other stuff.

then just plugged in the harness , antenna , microphone , gps antenna and the auxilary input wire for listening to pandora or slacker radio . this Kenwood unit comes with a USB wire that comes out the back that you can plug any phone wire into it.

the radio fit so tight in the hole that i used a file to loosen up the fit and the metal plate in the back i just used the handle of a hammer to bend the bracket open -- still a very snug fit.. but nice

the mounting brackets that go on the sides of the radio had to be altered alittle -- I had to break off the tabs so that the face plate clips would fit through .

came out nice

biggest issue was setting up my bluetooth for my new phone -- i emailed Kenwood today (saturday) at 1130am asking if there was something i was missing , and they emailed me back around 2pm with the answer . I couldnt believe they emailed me back so fast and with the correct answer of what I needed to do to get the new samsung note 2 to connect bluetooth. everything works great now .

i have a couple apline r type 10's , amp , and a 30 farad cap , but nt sure if i want to bother jambing all that stuff in this truck . been there and done that before and its a big pain in the butt !

Looks good! Is there any quality difference over stock with the bluetooth? Positive or negative?

I want to eventually do a SQ setup with some components. Id love to go with a aftermarket double din but dont want to lose the ability, or quality with the hands free system and being able to play music through bluetooth. I also love the range the stock unit has. Allows me to sit on the tailgate and use my phone to control the music.

Was there anything special that had to be done to insure that the new radio worked with the Rams High Speed Bus System ?
Or is the High Speed Bus System completely bypassed ?

I just made sure i was buying the correct wire harness that was for my year truck without alpine system -- it just happens that the PAC kit comes with both wireing harnesses anyways .

I am not sure what is inside the PAC little blue box -- but i would guess the has something to do with compatablity .

If my truck came with factory navigation and bluetooth I would not have changed anything . I only had this Kenwood from another truck that didnt come with nav either .

I dont know what the factory dodge nav bluetooth sounds like so I cant compare for you . sorry

This is my first Dodge truck , but have owned alot of chevy trucks , so comparing the chevy stock nav with bose -- I never switch them out -- bluetooth was great and the plugging my phone in to listen to pandora or slacker didnt bother me and sounded great .

now this Kenwood head unit sounds dam good too -- comparing it to the factory unit that was in there , it is way better . I am suprised how the factory non alpine speaker have such clean sound and really good bass .

the range is pretty good , i have been away from my truck while it was running and my phone answered in the truck while i was tring to answer it , and laughed cause I didnt know why I couldnt talk to the person who called but then saw it was connected to the trucks radio.

I hope this helped some
