Default P-0601 ECM issue

Hey all, I need some help, my check engine light has came on, went in and got it checked and its the P-0601 code for the ECM..
to replace it looking around and about the best i have found local is at Auto Zone for 354.00 or if i go to the dealer they want 620.00 for the ECM and another $200 to flash and install it (really, only 3 bolts to install)..
is there any better places to get it from, or is just replacing the ECM the best option all together, the dealership did recommend just bringing it in and having them flash my current one for $100..

any help would be appreciated..

A flash of your current PCM will NOT fix this problem and anyone telling you otherwise is trying to sell you a pig in a poke. The diagnostic for this problem is one step - if the code is present, replace the PCM. Since no new PCM's are being built, any one of the reman units you buy is really a gamble, so you may as well go for the less expensive one. The $200 to install and flash a new one seems a bit high to me - I wouldn't pay much more than one hour of the shops labor rate. You may want to look into an independent shop or other dealer for this service.

Ramtech, thanks for replying, i thought the $200 was a bit high as well, and that was coming from the local dealership.. The one i was looking at from Autozone, when i talked to them, they said it will be fully loaded and just need to be installed, i just need to give them all my vital info to have them load it.. does that sound correct?? or would it still need to be flashed??

It all depends on the shop. Ive worked in some dealers that charge an hour to flash/programme a module. others include in the replacement. It all varies, same as other types of work.
Flash will not fix it but whay they mean is to replace the pcm and flash it so they can programme the vin and pin.

Yes, the VIN and and security info will need to be programed into the PCM.
