Default 98 Ram Transfer Case won't stay in 4WD

98 Dodge Ram 1500 won’t stay in 4WD.
I adjusted the linkage to make sure its going all the way "home". I got under the truck made sure the front drive shaft was locked in. I got on some ice and applied power the front and read wheels pull for while and then the transfer case disengages. The linkage doesn't move, it stays "home" but its no longer engaged. I cycle the shift lever back to 2WD and then pull it hard back to 4WH. It engages again, but as soon as I apply power it pops out.

Has anyone been inside one of these case and know what could be happening? I could just et a $500 case from a bone yard. But I hate to do that if it could be a $200 part inside.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks.

your gaskets and bearings are bad. go to advanced auto parts and get t case rebuild kit. only like 200$ first find out what kind of t case you have.

what happens is ur bearings allow ur t case to transfer and turn ur axles. when they go bad it cant handle the horsepower cause they get worn out and allow space between em. inreturn cause it to slip and not transfer over when u push down on the pedal.
