I found a guy nearby who has a set of 5 of these tires in 35x12.5x17 with 20k miles on them. The pictures he put up look really good. He is asking for $500. Is that a good price, could I ask for less?
Can always ask less. People usually raise their price so they get what they want. I'd offer $350 maybe he'll sell for $400. I dont know what they're going for new.
i thought about picking up a set of MTRs until i started researching more.
Cons to the MTR
-Known to have many lemons( these tires are a gamble) with already 20k miles on them.. most usually get 35k maybe 40k tops before its time to get new tires and thats on smaller vehicles such as jeeps!
-theyre not that great on ice in sand.
-they can be hard to balance
-the mtr customer service is a joke.. goodyear has a bad reputation with tire tread life atleast the offroad tires ive tried
the open lugs can be susceptible to thorns and sharp objects that can puncture easily. so if youre into bush hogging. not a good tire stay on better paths
-the tire rating for 35s is 2400 pounds thats 200 plus pounds less than the crappy good year HPs if you tow or haul heavy loads reguarly might not be a worthy choice. i routinely haul 1300 pounds in my bed or more and thats more than the good year hps seem to want to hold.
the plus side to these tires are theyre cheap (atleast the ones you are looking at) so if you get a year out of them youre not out too much money if you stick to cheap wheels 100 bucks a wheel you got a set up for under a grand which is cheap for sure! i just wouldnt trust the MTR with already 20k miles on it to last very long. i would only use those tires for weekend warrior stuff. i drive alot and the best tires for tread life are the toyos hands down.. they just weigh a helluva alot
summary - its really flipping a coin with the MTR. if your truck a justa street queen and you hardly drive it but wanna go down some dirt roads here and there and just like the look of big tires this is a cheap option that wont kill your wallet...... until they wear out
buying used tires sucks from my experience.. ive bought BFGs that fell apart within a year that looked great when i bought them... no warranty..
alll i can say is do some research on the tire. the roads in nova are pretty smooth so maybe theyll last a little longer than expected.
Thanks for the input guys - sounds like fate worked in my favor here - he already sold the tires yesterday...I still have my sights set on the Toyo's I think.
