as for me I know the HEMI need 89 octane, So thats what I always use, in other Rams I had ( with no hemi) I just used 87 octane how about you ???
My Hemi gets 89, when I first got it I put 87 in it. now I know better, it runs much better. My 87 d-150 gets 93 or better, that 500 is one thirsty S.O.B.
been using BP Silver for years in my 1996 4x4 Dodge 5.9L . Gets me around 15 city on a light peddle and can get around 20 on highway. if i get the good stuff in Wisconsin can push it to 21. the silver runs cleaner and less maintance on trottle body. just got new/used 2011 Ram 1500 4.7L, 4x4 will be useing the Silver.
I run 87 and sometimes 89 but both work fine with no.issues in my 09 hemi or the 05 rumble bee. Only reason I can see for high octane like 93 is if your truck is tuned. With advanced timing and other adjustments you need the high octane to avoid pre detonation. My cars are both tuned so I have to run 93. Later when I mod tune the ram I will probably have 93 in it like the rest.
I run Shell 89 Oct. in mine ( Hemi ). The manual calls for it and I guess Dodge knows more about what it was built for than me. I only have about 1200 miles so far and I'm getting between 14.5 and 16 mpg around town and some interstate.
Just curious what Octane and fuel brand other fellow Ram drivers are using, and does it get you guys better performance or fuel mileage?
On my previous 07, I used 87 octane and had zero problems. I want to keep my new one for at least 7 years and want it to run great from here on out. I also tow a boat if anyone has any suggestions on what I should be running.
I use 89 octane, except when i am in an area where the gas prices are too high. At those times i put just enough gas to get me where prices are cheaper.
I gas up just before driving into Canada & limit my driving while up there. Every once in a while i drive up to Sudbury Ontario & i usually have to buy enough 87 octane to get back to New York, or even better Pennsylvania
I typically run 89 Octane, but sometimes will run 91-93 if it is cheap - I've put in some 87 when the prices were just insane, but only one tank!
As I understand it too, here in Oklahoma we are lucky because quite a few stations have 100% gas pumps, although I'm not sure what that'd do for an engine tuned for Ethanol (I imagine it won't hurt, but it may not help much either)
