Has anyone experienced a complete bead to bead blowout on Goodyear tires?? I had my front tire blow out at highway speed and it did a lot of damage to my truck. Estimated $1800 in repairs [ not including tire and rim], tried to google and search without much luck.
Any ideas on what could make this happen...sure would like to know if this is typical Goodyear stuff??? They want me to send them the tire for testing.
Wow... Pretty nasty. I've only had one blow out in my life and that was a rear tire on a Honda Accord. Luckily it didn't do any dmg to the car, but it sure shredded the tire. There wasn't much left.
No, but I had all 4 Firestone Wilderness AT's blow out on my last Tacoma before 20,000 miles. Toyota wouldn't warrantee and Goodyear said it was road hazzard. I believe the GY Duratrac's are actually very good tires. GY SRA's and HP's not so much.
That's alit if damage. I have never had a tire blow out that bad. I had one of the 22's on my trailblazer go but the nankangs I had held together and even saved the rim. Sorry to see so much damage from a tire. These Goodyear's they put in the rams are trash.
I had a similar blowout on my driver's side rear tire after owning my truck about a week. The tear in my tread was almost 3" long. I was only moving 15 mph or so when it happened so no damage to anything on my truck. I'm over 12K miles and haven't had a problem since, but I look forward to the day when I decide to replace them.
Was your TPMS working? No tire just blows out unless it is very old. Only 2 things could cause what you described. 1) driving over an object that cut your tire causing rapid deflation or 2) An air leak causing low tire pressure that caused your tire to overheat, delaminate and at highway speed gave you the impression of a "Blowout." No tire could have prevented what happened. Don't blame Goodyear, they are the best tire for your truck. Hope your insurance covers your loss.

Did you look at the pic? Delamination is the last thing I would consider, that looks like, and it seems Goodyear is interested in finding out, a structural defect. Barring a failure based on an unseen object I'd put the blame on a defect that may have caused overheating and rupture. I've seen more than a few highway speed delaminations and they have never burst around the sidewall in one spot like his.
Yes the tire pressure system was working fine, I didn't see anything on the road when it blew [sunny, dry pavement]. Goodyear is going to test the tire, and they might cover the damages [fingers crossed].
I have never seen a tire go like this one did...ever, so I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this.
My front drivers tire did the same thing last week. Only 16k on the truck/tires so I am wanted to know if Goodyear is taking care of this. I am not sure of the damage cost to my truck, but my fender buckled out like yours. My tire split just like yours.
Had a blow out a week ago right front Goodyear wrangler sr-a the belts on the sidewall shifted and blew out the bead I heard a load bang watched the sensors light up I the dash went from 39 lbs of air in tire to 0 in less then 30
Seconds I was traveling at 70 when this happened Truck had 6000 miles on took tire back to dealer I bought the tire protection plan dealer told me they have a lot of problems with the these Goodyear tires glad did they sent tire back to Goodyear They gave me a
New tire I then checked around at my local tire shop they also stated they see this problem with this sr-a tire and don't recommend it
just 2 weeks ago I had a good year blow. This was on dry pavement and at @50mph. The damage to the fender and wheel well was extensive. The blow out was without notice and the tire split across from Bead to Bead including the steel belts were all ripped apart. This was not a failure from an old tire, mileage was 17000 miles on the tire. I did not run over anything in the road. There was no time for the tire pressure sensor to give warning as it was in an instant. The explosion was violent and I'm glad I was only accelerating and never reached the actuall posted speed limit of 65mph. Tire is being sent in.
WOW...I knew these tires were crappy but this is just crazy! Ram needs to stop putting these cheap tires on their vehicles. I was hoping to get a year or two out of these before dropping the cash on new ones so I could level it at the same time but I may not wait now.
Crazy and scary to see these pics of the blown SRA's. I'll surely be monitoring mine very closely now. I have 21k on mine and they seem to be wearing well and even. I have them rotated at every oil change.
My 2016 Ram now has 1200 miles on it
The original tires & rims are in storage
after market rims & Michelin's are on the truck, they look better & ride much better, i have road hazard warranty
The rims & tires were on my 2009 before, they may have 5000 miles on them
I have these wranglers on my truck and never knew they could blow like that. I had blowouts before, but never across the tire from inside rim to outside rim. That is a structural defect and a very serious one. I have 7300 miles on me truck and will really consider new tires now.
Same thing happened to me this morning on my 2014 Ram. I have 46K miles on my tires so I guess I got lucky. I still think I should get more miles out of a tire than 46K though. Hopefully Geico will cover but I have a $1000 deductible. Has anyone had any luck with Goodyear claiming this?
I see you're still running them, be careful. Mine were wearing good and I had them rotated as needed at the dealership. I was going 70-75 on the highway when this happened.
I have contacted Goodyear but I don't expect to hear back. I'm not going to push the subject with them since I did get 46K miles out of the tires. If this had happened at 5, 10, or 20K miles I would definitely be fighting it.
What hurts the most is now my truck will have a repair on it . I always hate that. I'm one of those people who can look at a vehicle and see a repair.
On a good note, I got myself a new set of Michelins
I contacted Goodyear. It is too late for me but maybe this will help out someone else. Here is their response:
Thank you for contacting our web site. We are always concerned when we learn that we have failed to exceed a customer's expectations with regards to our product or service.
All Goodyear tires come with a six year limited warranty. During the first
12 months or 2/32" of tread wear, whichever comes first, tires removed from service due to a covered warranty condition will be replaced with a comparable Goodyear product free of charge, mounting and balancing are included.
Tires not eligible for free replacement that are removed from service due to a covered warranty condition will be replaced with a comparable new Goodyear tire on a prorated basis for up to six (6) years from the date of purchase. (Without proof of purchase the date of manufacture will be used to determine eligibility.)
Without inspecting the tire in question we could not comment as to its cause or condition.
