One of the local dealers around here has a gimmick that got me to go in and look at a truck that I not only have no need for, but can't afford, nor do I really even want it. I went to look anyway.
Here's the deal....
Buy one of several selected 2009 Ram 3500 trucks (there is also a 2500 4X4), and you'll receive your choice of one of several 2008 PT Cruiser or Caliber program cars (each got less than 20K) and you will only pay tax, title, and license.
Went down and looked at an '09 Laramie 3500 single rear wheel. It was a nice truck, had most of the bells and whistles, but NOT the nav for around $50K. I told the salesman that the only way I'd consider it, was if they threw in the nav for free (he claimed it'd cost $2500).
It seems in order to get the freebie car, you must agree to give all the rebates and incentives back to the dealer (it's about $6500) around here. They also seem to think that you must pay what is on the sticker (which I never do).
I don't need a 3500, didn't really even want one, but it was a deal that I had to check out. I left the stealership, telling the salesman that I had to think about it, and that I'd call if I decided to go with it. He said that he'd "work on his boss" to try to get him to come off the price of the truck. I sort of nodded and told him "sure, you do that. If he wants to deal, then give me a call".
I got to thinking about it when I got home. I've put too much time and effort into tweaking my '08 so that's uniquely mine, don't wish to start over.......yet
