I have not been able to find a way to replace an ignition key (with a chip) on my 2011 without going to a dealership ($$$) There must be a way. Has anyone come across any info on this or actually done it? Every place I have tried has said "go to the dealer". thanks, vince:4-dontknow:
I bought blank/uncut chipped keys for my '11 Ram from eBay, and had the dealer cut and program them. The keys cost me $20 each, and the dealer charged me $40 to cut/program 2 keys. I was unsuccessful in programming the keys myself, so I figured the $40 was worth it. For $60 total, I have 2 spare keys that will start the truck.
I only have one key and the dealer called to have one made for me at the locksmith and safe shop. They ordered a new one like the one I have and it would not program last week. So they ordered another one and I have to go in tomorrow to give it a try. I have a feeling it won't work after reading this anyway I'll keep you posted on what happens.
Well I went back to the locksmith and they tried the new key and it programmed just fine and works great. The machine they used looked like the wiTECH and took a whole 5 minutes. Anyway it worked and good luck to everyone trying to get this done.
