Three times so far this year, I've been accosted by big fat pickup trucks while I'm just out cruising in my 2013 5.0 Mustang, and each time it's been a Ram! Wth is going on?
The first time was about two months ago, on a 50 mph road with stoplights about every 1/2 mile. Some old jackwagon in a newer black Ram starts revving his engine next to me. I thought he was having a stroke or something, so I just watched in amazement as he squealed away when the light turned green.
I chalked that one up to a mentally unstable person and forgot about it. Then a few weeks ago another Ram pulled alongside me on the highway and starts speeding up and slowing down next to me. I couldn't really believe that he wanted to race me, and I just assumed that he was part of the same family tree as the first nut, and I went about my business and he eventually squealed away.
That got my curious about Rams, so I looked them up on the internet and was not surprised to find out that they are very heavy and quite slow, which is what I suspected.
So this past Friday night I'm out with a buddy, and a 3rd Ram again starts revving at my at a light. At this point I said you have got to be kidding me, so when the light turned green I romped on it and dropped about 10 lengths on the Ram. I wait at the next light for the guy to finally show up, and of course he's staring straight ahead like nothing happened, but his engine is idling normally instead of revving up to 5k. Funny how that works.
Did I just happen to run into the 3 dumbest guys in the world, by coincidence, or is there something in the Ram gene pool that I should know about?
BTW they are a cool looking truck, so when I buy a house and I don't need something fast, I would definitely consider a Ram.

Some people just do not know any better. I can say the same thing about eco boost guys. I lost count of how many have tested me and made fools of themselves. Only I didn't go on their forum and run my mouth about it like you're doing. And btw...that's giving them the jump just to make sure of their intensions. So if you want a really slow truck to go with your house when you choose to get one you should go buy one of those.

Your age is listed as 24, probably is really 14. So I guess in your fantasy world things might turn out the way you want. At least on xbox and with hot wheels cars. But be warned, that bicycle you're peddling around on isn't really as fast as it feels to you. But be careful and try not to hurt yourself! :gy:
I can't tell you how many times I get Mustang owners trying to race me in ANYTHING I am driving (Ram, Range Rover, Trans am, rental cars....). What is up with Mustang owners? :4-dontknow:
To the youngin with the Mustang, go up against a Ram R/T with someone who knows how to line up. Then report back with us. You're completely correct in stating a Ram is heavy, and that's because it's balls are gigantic! But the simple truth is? Is that you're still driving a Turd. Sorry, I meant a Furd.
Around my area, there is a Gen 3 Ram truck in Ewes clothing
I don't believe that it has the rev limiter hooked up & possibly something else mounted on the top of the engine
I do know that it is quick & the inner fenders must be tubbed, the meat back there is quite a bit wider then stock
Mustangs are light weight & in a different Class, but can't beat a Kawasaki
No argument about many Mustang drivers being kind of douchey. I've had run ins with them before becoming a Mustang owner.
I definitely did not instigate vs. any of these pickup trucks. Street racing is not really my thing. What is this Ram r/t? How big a supercharger does it have?
Ever heard the statement that guns don't kill people and spoons don't make people fat? Same concept here. It's not the truck, it's the people. And no, I can assure you that not all, not even most of us are that way.
It might be fair to say that Ram trucks (due to their marketing) attract those types of people, however, it is not accurate to say that Ram trucks create those types of people.
So to answer your original question...Nothing. Nothing is with us Ram guys. At least not most of us. A better question might be "What's with all the jackasses being attracted to Ram trucks?" and I think I answered that question above. Look at all the aggressive marketing and hype about the legendary Hemi. What jackass that needs a truck wouldn't want one, lol?
Agree with the above...it's the HEMI marketing. The trucks make good power and are quick for a truck but against cars that way ~ a ton less and make the same hp it's not even a realistic fight. With the numbers in my signature my truck still won't even hang with my '08 Roush. Some people just like to learn the hard way and sometimes more than once.
Threads like this are awesome cuz they give us a chance to tell stories about people who drive vehicles that aren't like ours. I see people at Home Depot all the time trying to load 2x4s into their cars. It's always fun to load up the bed of the truck and honk as I drive past while they are struggling to figure out how to squeeze lumber into their Corollas. It must be in their gene pool..

Welcome to the site. We need to get you into a 4th Generation Ram and then you will understand. It really is the ultimate driving machine. And ill run you any day on the street.
Do not take offense, but I think starquestbd22 had guys like you in mind when he posted! At + 1000 to 1500 lbs over me, -30 hp, and with worse aero, worse gearing, and worse weight distribution, you are not the type of vehicle that I'm going to be racing anywhere.
Now, my mom has a sweet v6 Camry that would probably be a good run for you. Try to catch her with a back seat full of tomato plants and you might have a shot!
Just looked up the specs for the 5.0 stang, 420hp and 390tq. Not to bad but not impressed. With a manual tranny and lighter no doubt it's fast but not that fast. There are a lot of Ram out there and on this forum that would eat that Stang up. Happy hunting 5.0, eventually you'll fine one that will :SHOCKED: you away.
Beautiful 5.0 btw!!
I can Launch at full throttle, 500whp, 3K stall torque converter with 4WD traction
Lowered Reg Cab Short Box 4x4, about 10psi Boost via Vortech V3 Supercharger, water/meth injected.
When I'm at the track I run 4 dedicated 28" drag radials on light aluminum 17" wheels,
But even at full weight in street trim I can hit 4 seconds 0-60 with my heavy 20's with big@ass 305/50R20 Terra Grapplers.
a suppose a stang can do about that too,
but only if you can get it to hook on the street with just 2WD.
do you wear white sunglasses with your shirt off when you drive your mustang?
haha. 5.0 are nice. still wouldn't dive one. but I definitely laugh at the tool bags in their v6 mustangs with their white oakleys and no shirt on and the top down. those dudes think they are bad. no self respecting man should drive a v6 mustang. but that's not the topic at hand.
some Guys can do good work to these rams and make them fast as hell. so do be careful. but I would say you are right, and normal stock ram shouldn't be toying with you, but with some $$ and things done right you'd be surprised who you could get your ass handed to you by.
Why in the hell are people trying to compare a Mustang and a Ram? I have a 2011 Mustang GT with a 5.0 and a 2012 Ram 1500 and they are both great vehicles. Last time I checked the Mustang is a car and a Ram is a truck.
If you need to drive a Ram to feel like a man then you should probably just pull the trigger anyways. I also own a Chrysler Town and Country and I drive that more then the Ram or the Mustang so I guess I should get a sex change.
First off, this thread has turned out to be pretty amusing.
Second, I have to say that I think the OP was pretty genuine and did a pretty good job of making his comments without being a dick about it. Most of the responses have been the same.....most.
And lastly, say what you will...I don't care, but I will own a 2015 Mustang GT one of these days. The only way I won't is if Ford comes out with one that's even sexier. I'm obviously a Ram guy here but let's throw out some stock numbers.
New Mustang GT:
420HP/390TQ
Curb weight ~3600lbs
8.6 pounds/HP
0-60 in 4.3
1/4 in the high 12's
New Ram reg cab 4x2 Hemi:
390HP/407TQ
Curb weight ~4500lbs
11.5 pounds/HP
0-60 in 5.5
1/4 in low to mid 14's
Yes, I know these trucks can be made pretty quick and there are quick ones out there. Hell, for a truck, they aren't bad bone stock. But my point is that if you are running around in an even relatively stock Hemi Ram you would be an idiot to pick a fight with a new GT.
Just to correct you're older spec numbers bud.
The newer Ram Hemis coupled with the 8HP70 trans are at 395 HP and 516 ftlbs of torque. A stock regular cab, 4x2 short bed with 3.92's and 27" diameter tires would give that 2015 Stang a run for its money. It comes down to the drivers reaction time at the line and how well he gets through the gears. I like Stangs too but I like the anticipated Hellcat Charger(not Challenger), even better.
