hey guys im getting ready to change my differential oil and was wondering what your opinions were on the best synthetic differential oil and also if anyone has used a K&N airfilter in there truck and if it is actually worth the money performance and gas mileage not the cold air intake system but just the filter itself that replaces your stock one
I would recommend Amsoil . Don't waste your money on the drop in filter . Buy a CAI . K&N has a FIPK . Have one on my truck . Noticed a difference . Drop in filter was a waste of money .
Speed Freak, your truck rocks! And like what Tom said earlier, if you're going to upgrade your air filter just go straight to a cold air intake system. If you're going to do it, do it right from the start. If you wanted to do something half-arsed then you may as well have bought a Tundra instead of a Ram!
Don't forget the limited slip additive! Some gear oils have it already (like Royal Purple) but most don't. If you have limited slip, which I'm sure you do because you have an R/T, you NEED the additive! If using a gear oil that doesn't have it, you'll need 4oz of LSD Additive.
Very true that some gear oils need the additive (if it's a lower quality). I would recommend AmsOil 75w-110 Severe gear lube and it's already made for limited slip. You will still get the same power and fuel economy (if not more) by using this. Hope this helps.
I am using Amsoil. I have gone to Amsoil for everything. Oils, grease, oil and air filters. Even became a preferred customer to take advantage of the savings. Don't plan on going the full term as offered by Amsoil but its nice to know if you miss the due date for a change you are safe. Royal Purple would be my second choice.
I recently changed my stock fluid to Amsoil 75W140 with 4oz of slip additive, and it's dyno'd to the tune of +40HP/76lb/ft!!!
j/j but it seems like good stuff.
