Hey War Wagon,
That brings back memories.
Here are pictures of my 1979 Ramcharger when I first got it and a few pictures after it when I was done.
I built this truck when I was 19 yeats old.
First post, but have browsed all 93 pages of trucks in this thread. As a prior gen 1 owner and now a gen 4 owner, I have a few questions. 3.55 gearing and the 6 speed in a 2013 1500.... what is a safe lift to go with? Last truck had 3.92s, which I would have rather had, but I found this cream puff with 4100 miles on it and had to buy it. Will 5 100 s satisfy my itch to lift in the short term, and what tire size could I go with with just the bilstiens? The truck has the factory flares, what would be a good rim dimension or tire size to stay tucked within those flares? I haven't seen any grey over silver two tone trucks lifted, I am open for suggestions to what everyone would think looks good!
I wouldn't go any larger than a 285 size tire with just Bilsteins..... I would also make sure I stuck with a rim that was 20x9 with no more than a -12 offset.
This combo would take your tires out to the edge of your flares and the 285's would fit nicely without looking stuffed. The biggest benefit is you would not have to max out your Bilsteins, which in my opinion is a good thing.... the higher you lift on the 5100's, the less "cushy" your ride will feel.
I really haven't smashed the pedal to see, however I had no problem getting on the highways and up to speed. Maybe there's a tendency to slow faster and need a little extra ump to get up our hills in the area, but certainly nothing "concerning" on my end. Truck rides MUCH better now.... wish all stock trucks road this well!
Thanks Missouri ram for the prompt response. Truck looks sweet... my 03 was triple black with a 4" lift, I should have never sold it. When I got this I thought the 2 tone looked old manish, but it is growing on me and now I want to play...
